Innovation Cases

Innovation Cases in OntoTrans will be predefined combinations of GUI modules, EMMO branches and connected data/OSP that will guide the user through the setup of a specific manufacturing problem, from the Innovation Case definition to the computational level.

The innovation cases will be tested in-project, within their industrial relevant environments, in four innovation cases in four different industries.

Post-launch analysis of pouch detergents

The challenge is the fast analysis of large datasets to assess in-market initiative success. Current bottlenecks include the development of appropriate models to be applied in the translation process that capture the in-market dynamics across multiple countries, including the presence on shelf of alternative product forms, e.g., bottled liquid and powder detergents as well as of competitive products.

The sought benefit is to rapidly react to the change of market reality, competitive initiatives, economic drivers and distribution, to offer the best possible product line-up to consumers.

Detergent Pouch Systems

The challenge is for a more integrated, digital design and development of laundry Detergent Pouch Systems. Current bottlenecks are associated to:
1. The development of appropriate consumer data/models to be applied in the translation process which describe the country specific consumer habits and practices and the fast-evolving individual markets reality
2. The integration of models in a unified ontology framework.

Benefit sought include a faster product development cycle and the faster adaptation of solutions to delight different consumers segments, while continuously improving product and process sustainability.

Composite prepregs

Market, regulatory and safety requirements drive the transition towards non-toxic, low environmental impact solutions for composite prepregs (fabrics pre-impregnated with resin). Bioresin (polyfurfuryl alcohol) prepregs provide a potential solution.

The aim is to achieve improved understanding and ultimately control of the process in order to reduce time and costs in development and manufacturing of high-quality end products and achieve a more model-based approach for a wide range of future product developments.

Steel Section Mill

Innovations in steel are essential for energy efficient, lightweight and sustainable products; leading to demanding requirements regarding mechanical properties.

There is fundamental need in a coherent, seamless, and unified system which can address challenges more efficiently in a single framework that covers the whole process of product development. The ultimate objective is achieving the ability of determining the process parameters given the required mechanical properties of a target future product.
